Rent
$540.00 a week, due every Friday.
Behind by $1080.00.
The week due Friday 30 Oct 2026 is 7 days overdue.
If the rent is late, your options
- Talk to the tenant first, or send a friendly reminder.
- Agree a payment plan, a temporary reduction or a rent holiday, in writing.
- Give a 14 day notice to remedy. If it is not put right by then, whether to go to the Tenancy Tribunal is your decision.

Nothing recorded yetChange how rent is countedDone
To change between weekly and fortnightly, use Adjust rent under Rent history, so the date it changed is recorded.
Rent is counted from Friday, the day the tenancy started. Choosing a different due day is not available on this deployment yet.
Rent increases
NZ law allows a rent increase once every 12 months, counted from the tenancy start or the last increase.
Next eligible on 16 Oct 2027.
Measured from the tenancy start, because no rent increase has been recorded for this tenancy. If the rent has gone up since, record the date in Property settings, or this date will be wrong.

Each week is charged at the rent in force that week, so a change here does not alter what was owed before it.
$540.00 a week, paid weekly, since the tenancy started 16 Oct 2026. No change has been recorded.

Rent statement
One row per week, newest first. Money is applied to the oldest week still owing, in the order it arrived, so a late payment shows against the week it paid for. Payments from an earlier tenancy are not counted here; they are in the Timeline.

Corrections
A payment is never deleted. If one did not really arrive, or money went back to the tenant, record that here: the original stays on record beside the correction and its reason.

Rent agreements
A record of what you and the tenant agreed about rent: a temporary reduction, a rent holiday, a permanent reduction, an abatement, or a plan to repay arrears. RentGuide records it and reminds nobody. The law expects each one in writing, signed by you both, with a copy given to the tenant before it starts (section 13B of the Residential Tenancies Act).

Good to know
How often can rent go up?
No sooner than 12 months after the tenancy started, and no sooner than 12 months after the last increase, with at least 60 days' written notice.
Tenancy Services on increasing rentWhy record who paid?
In a joint tenancy the rent is one amount, but it often arrives as separate payments. Recording who sent each one shows who is short, instead of only that the rent is.
Give each tenant their payment reference from the People page. Imported bank lines that carry it are attributed automatically.
Is a water charge part of the rent?
No. RentGuide keeps water charges apart from rent, so they never count toward or against rent arrears.
